The new USB Type-C connector is built on existing USB 3.1 and 2.0 technologies but features an entirely new design, the connector would be much smaller in size and won’t depend upon the plug’s orientation.
The promoter group of USB 3.0 comprised of HP, Intel, Microsoft, Renesas Electronics and Texas Instruments. The group says that the new design will accommodate further upgrades in future devices bringing thinner and sleeker product designs, enhancing usability and providing better performance.
