Rumors of a new family of Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets have been bouncing around for the better part of 2013. We’ve heard a lot about specs, as well as all the sizes Samsung might target for production. So far, there’s been a lot of rumor and speculation, but today we finally start getting actual answers, though they don’t arrive without some new rumors coming to fill the void.
First off, Samsung has officially announced the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3. As rumors suggested, this is a relatively low-end tablet specs-wise, arriving with a low 1024 x 600 resolution and only a 1.2GHz dual-core SoC. The WiFi version arrives next month, followed by the 3G edition in June. Based on the presence of an earpiece, it looks like this is another tablet Samsung expects users to use as an oversized phone.
Now, what about those new rumors? We’ve got a bunch of ‘em. There’s a DUOS-branded dual-SIM seven-inch tablet that sounds like it will be very much like the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (though we don’t yet know what manner of SoC will power it). We could also see an 8.0-inch Galaxy Tab with an AMOLED display and quad-core Exynos 4, though this source suggests that such a model would be dependent on Samsung improving its AMOLED production line first.
On the bigger end, there could be a pair of new 11-inch tablets from Samsung. One might be a Galaxy Tab model with an Exynos 5 Dual, eight-megapixel main camera, and microSD expansion. That’s not so unbelievable on its own. What’s a little harder to swallow, though, is that there could also be a Samsung-made Nexus 11. That’s not necessarily because we don’t think Google would approach Samsung to make another Nexus tablet, but because this rumor includes the note that the Nexus 11 would support microSD expansion – over Google’s dead body, perhaps. The Nexus 11 would supposedly run an Exynos 5 Octa.
